Way before electricity and the internet were discovered, people used to correspond with each other who lived a very good distance away from them through letters. Although these letters took a good deal of time to get delivered to the receiver’s address, there was no other way to communicate than by doing this. There was also not much confirmation regarding the delivery of the letter once the sender posted it, so the anticipation was also something that people used to deal with.
